Born on Sept. 6th, 1938 in the small town of Glace bay Cape Bretan Nova Scotia, Harvey was the 5th child born to Leo and Coleena Gouthro.
A handsome and charismatic lad he was quite the charmer........ to say the least. Harvey was approximately 12 yrs. old when he and the
family relocated to Hamilton Ontario in 1950.
This is where he met and married Jessie Miller from Prince Edward Island and together they had 4 children, 2 daughters
and 2 sons.
His distinctive plaid shirts were his trademark along with his keen wit and original sense of humor. His unmistakable gestures
and body language will forever be "mimicked," and remembered with the fondest of memories by all who knew him. Harvey had a sense of
passion for those who he felt needed help or guidance, Harvey was known to go out of his way if he spotted and older women sitting alone
in a dance-hall, and he'd charm her to her feet and onto the dance floor, undoubtedly making her day!!! It was as though he were a magnet
to "little old ladies and children", indeed a rare special person!!! His easy-going lackadaisical nature, gave way to his patience and
eagerness to encourage anyone who showed the least bit of interest in the guitar.
Harvey was not one to take life seriously..........appeared to be that "happy-go-lucky-guy" who just loved life and people, as well as the
guitar-playing family traditions. He was in his element during these happy times, with "the more the merrier" attitude, performing and
making people laugh.........which came so naturally.
Without any reservations I would say his personage and legacy was undeniably unique.
With much regret he departed from us on.........March 6th. 2003, but will remain sadly missed and loved by all.
